REVIEW *** 2006 Skiing event in Kitzbühel
The huge success of the 2005 Winter Retreat in Kitzbühel was a hard goal to beat, but the 2006 event did just that. With word having spread around the HBS community, the number of participants doubled compared to 2005 with a total of 157 adults and 68 kids.
The event started on Friday evening with an interesting presentation from Dr. Georg Nederegger of McKinsey on the challenges and opportunities in the German health care industry. As in previous years the post-dinner bar meeting was a great chance to catch up with old friends.
The professional program continued on Saturday with Professor Forest Reinhardt moderating a case discussion on "The Allianz-Dresdner Bank Merger". Following the case discussion, participants had a rare opportunity to hear from Dr. Paul Achleitner, CFO, Allianz AG, what really happened after the acquisition and the business logic behind the deal.
Following an update on HBS and the current activities of the European Research Center from Vincent Dessain, Filippo di Mauro from the European Central Bank gave an insightful presentation into macro-economic trends and their impact on economic development in Europe.
Rounding off the Saturday professional program, Prof. Beatrice Weder di Mauro, member of the German Council of Economic Experts ("Fünf Weise") provided a fascinating analysis of the economic challenges facing Germany.
The traditional after dinner party this year followed the rest of Austria in celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth in nearby Salzburg.
Although the weather conditions couldn't match the cloudless skies and sunshine of 2005, snow conditions on Sunday were again excellent.
Thanks to Pamela Vorbrugg, Erkan Kilicaslan, Harald Maehrle and Hubert Birner for organizing the event.
The HBS Association would also like to thank our sponsors Civitas, Shearman & Sterling, Marsh and GLL Real Estate Partners for helping to make this event possible.
